Mark Madden, a voice on the airwaves in my hometown of Pittsburgh, Pa dropped a bombshell, that if true, will unravel Penn State University, including its Board of Trustee’s. According to Mark Madden, what has been released in the media is far from the whole story. Madden claims that Jerry Sandusky, now being charged with numerous counts of sexual conduct with minors, may have been allowed to continue his actions against children even after the University found out about this troubling report. This goes to the top at Penn State, including rich donors who, Madden states, were using Sandusky as a ‘pimp’. If these allegations are true (and Madden has been on top of this more than anyone else out there in the media) then this is no longer about what Joe Paterno knew and what he told, it is about what the higher up’s at the University knew and what they helped cover up.
Madden also states that this was not a secret on campus, just as I reported on my show last night. Even the students had a feeling there was something going on at the school, but all they heard were rumors and nothing more. You know how rumors can get started, especially in college, so I am sure many in the student body could not believe it was actually true. I have been in a public University and rumors are all over the place about what teachers and board members do in their spare time, so taking it seriously, as far as the student body goes, probably did not happen.
The State of Pennsylvania need to call every member of the Trustee’s to testify under oath about what they knew and when they knew it. If this was a rumor on campus for these many years, then they would surely have heard something about it, if not been told about it from someone. I am not implicating the Trustee’s in any sexual misconduct, but their actions and inaction need to be investigated as well. The Department of Education has stepped in over the past few days to say they will also investigate what is going on at the University, and if this bombshell from Madden is correct, it would be the biggest cover-up in a college setting to ever hit this nation.
Last night I wrote a blog and spent a whole show defending Joe Paterno, and I will not back off of that until I get proof that he actually knew there was a cover-up under way implicating the top of the top at the university. If this is the case, then it will be a sad day for Penn State. All we know right now is that this could and more than likely will get much worse, although how much worse remains to be seen.
These new revelations make me sick to my stomach. How could this be allowed to occur on a college campus? There are reports that, if this is true, that we could be dealing with HUNDREDS of victims, and just the thought of that makes me want to puke! A little more background is in order, since I did not go in this direction last night on the show but will tonight for sure:
Jerry Sandusky ran a non-profit organization aimed at helping underprivileged youth during his time at Penn State. The claim is that he used this non-profit to set up sexual meetings with donors from the school and children who were a part of the program. That is the long and the short of it, everyone, and frankly it is all most will have to hear to get even more disgusted with this situation. One may ask how could this have been allowed to happen for so long without anyone outside the University finding out about it? That is a good question, and a question I think the Attorney General at this time needs to look into. Sandusky was investigated in 1998 and the prosecutor investigating the case found no evidence of wrong doing. Now, looking back, and knowing that the prosecutor in that case has since disappeared and has not been seen since 2005, there are even more questions I have for this University and the police who investigated. Here is more facts from this case:
2. The prosecutor in 1998 decided not to press charges against Sandusky even though, reportedly, there was a confession made by Sandusky that he had showered with multiple children.
The media, if they want to do their job, should have been on this even before today. Why was this investigation thrown under the rug? The claim is that no one outside of the University knew, but that is a flat out lie. Those outside the university connected to local police and the non-profit run by Sandusky knew about these claims yet nothing was done. This would also mean that the Trustee’s would have certainly have known about the investigation and also allowed Sandusky to stay on campus and keep his office and perks even after he retired. This cover-up is much bigger than blaming a football coach, this goes to the highest levels of the University and the local police department, if all of this information turns out to be correct. Again, Madden has been right every step of the way and one would have to conclude he has at least one source close to what is going on at the University.
We will have to sit back, wait and see, and then look at all that has happened. But again, if this information checks out after Department of Education investigations, Penn State University has much more trouble on their hands then what they can push off on one football coach. These problems go to the highest levels of the university, and if that is the case then Penn State as we know it today will never be the same again. It will be time to not only clean house but for the Department of Education to realistically consider pulling the federal funding for students at that school.
